- 1792- A federal law is passed that prohibits blacks from carrying arms for the U.S. Army 1
- July 17th, 1862- Congress passes the Second Confisication and Militia Act which frees slaves whose masters are fighting with the Confederate Army 1
- July 19th, 1862- Slavery is abolished in the territories of the United States 1
- July 22nd, 1862- President Lincoln delivers the preliminary draft of his Emancipation Proclamation 1
- January 1, 1863-Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamations takes effect 2
- May, 1863-The War Department establishes The Bureau of Colored Troops 2
- June, 1864- Congress passes a retroactive bill that orders Colored Troops are paid evenly 1
